Serhan Yarkan
I am a professor in the Department of Computer Engineering at Istanbul Medeniyet University, and one of the two directors of TAPIR Lab. My work sits in wireless communications: statistical signal processing, measuring and modelling the propagation channel, cognitive radio, and the problem of interference in networks that have to share spectrum.

Research
A radio channel is a physical thing that has to be measured before it can be modelled, and most of what I do follows from that: characterising propagation in environments that are hard on a signal, then building the statistical models and the adaptation that let a system work in them. Underground mines and disaster scenes have been a long-running case, because they break the assumptions that ordinary channel models rest on. More recently the same questions at terahertz frequencies.
